While the straight lock stitch sewing machine for home usage (released in 1932) increased sales, the demand for military-use sewing machines also grew as the war grew worse.
Brother invented an automatic gear cutter which is an essential component to mass produce industrial sewing machines and started as a factory specializing in cast metals and machinery. In 1936, an industrial sewing machine was manufactured.
