Brother celebrated its 100-year anniversary in 2008. To honor this special occasion we began planting trees in Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture. There were times when our seeds didn't grow and things looked difficult. After so many hours of studies and research, we gradually started to see more plants and insects. For us, it is such an honor to work with Gifu Prefecture, Gujo City, and Nagoya University. Along with this collaborative approach to industry, government, and academics, we plan to have more time interacting with locals.

This project to reforest the Tatras mountains is important not only to the local people, but to us all. There is great meaning, not just in revitalizing the richness of nature, but also in showing the next generation how to live with nature. Our goal is to plant many trees while strengthening the co-operative relationship between us. It takes time to see the results of these efforts, but we will continue to work on this project for future generations.

Brother International Corporation (BIC) engages and collaborates with The Arbor Day Foundation in response to the question concerning how to counterbalance the burden on the environment resulting from our business operations. BIC work together with The Arbor Day Foundation and other environmental conservation organizations for reforestation and forestal preservation. Through our ongoing activities in the 12 areas of Brother Americas, we hope to have a positive impact on the environment. We aim to spread the motto, “At your side.” on a global scale through our efforts to manage the preservation of remaining forests and precious resources.

Looking around the world, China is one of the countries in the world with the most severe desertification problem. It has reached 27% of the total area.
Every time we go to Alashan in Inner Mongolia, where we are planting trees, we can feel the seriousness of this environmental problem. Brother has a great sense of mission in slowing down desertification as much as possible. -

Brother, as a manufacturing company, has thought long and hard about its responsibility to address environmental issues. The reason why we plant trees in local places is to engage people's interest in the environment in their daily lives. We at Brother Commercial (Thailand) Ltd. (BCTL) aim to win the respect of all our stakeholders. Together with our business partners, employees at BCTL and their family members can protect the beautiful environment in Thailand. Through this mangrove reforestation project, we have come to realize that we could improve the public awareness of environmental conservation in this community. I believe that our effort toward mangrove reforestation will lead to a positive result.

The biodiversity conservation work that Brother's employees are carrying out with Earthwatch is very important. It provides a great opportunity to deepen our understanding of the challenges, and to move on to the next step. Furthermore, by actually visiting the research locations we have also come to learn exactly how useful Brother's support is. Two-thirds of the earth is sea. We will stress the importance of protecting the marine environment, encourage all our employees to think deeply about environmental issues and keep working on our commitment to the sea and the life it supports.
